The draft standards for AS/CA S008 and AS/ CA S009 covering mandatory standards for customer (telecommunication) cabling is out for public comment.
One of the major changes for these revisions are the change to energy sources from voltage classifications. This was brought about by the publication of AS/NZS 62368.1:2018 Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment Part1: Safety requirements.
AS/NZS 62368.1 Part 1 has three energy source classifications ES1, ES2 and ES3 along with three types of people to protect ordinary, instructed and skilled. These new classifications have been reflected within the drafts.
ES3 is deemed to be hazardous.
The introduction of new remote powering requirements into the industry has also impacted the documents with the advent of 100 Watt PoE, 1000 Watt digital power (ES2) and the possibility of ES3 being run over generic style cabling.
This has seen new requirements to address hazardous services running over generic cabling and minimum gauge of cabling to address heat rise in cabling (Expressed in Ohms per metre).
The public comment period for the draft closes Friday 24 May 2019.
