International standard group pushes to include RL testing in field testing for fibre

The latest draft of ISO/IEC 11801 includes the requirement for the inclusion of RL for infield testing of fibre links and channel. The current stated test methodology to determine ORL (Optical Return Loss) is by use of an OTDR and interpetation and calculation based on the OTDR traces. Acceptance of ORL into the standards could see a dramatic change in infield testing requirements
